Life-Long Learning

Learn

Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere.  Chinese Proverb

One aspect of my personal vision is that I learn something new every day.  It could be a big life insight or a small fact.  It could be deliberate or just by accident.  I find the discovery of knowledge fun and the development of wisdom (a word I use more as I get older) essential.  I want to focus on goal-oriented learning though and our growth as parents, friends and employees.

You don’t have to go to school to learn; all you have to do is have a curiosity.  Adult learning has some interesting characteristics…we learn what we want to learn, we learn by doing, we learn by solving problems and we learn in our own way.  Some learn by reading, others by going to a class and others by just working on a problem.

In the context of life skills we can and should set learning goals in the areas of personal development, relationships, parenting, spirituality, money, career and so much more.  Choosing to set growth goals first requires an attitude shift, we need to believe that ongoing personal growth is essential.

Did learning stop for you because of a bad experience with school?  Do you challenge yourself to grow deliberately?  Do you find it fun or important?  I hope you never grow too old or too busy to learn.
